10 New Technology Predictions for the Future of 3D and Design

06 Jan, 2010 by Josh Mings in TECH
3D Human CAD Models

Quick, while nobody’s looking, slip those goggles on that make you look as if you’ve slipped through time to warn yourself about reading this post. “DON’T READ IT!” your future self says, but curiosity grasped your eyelids and pulls them clear over your freshly shaved hairline.

You just can’t start a new decade without throwing a huge, sopping wet wad of presumption at the next one. It would be easy to make predictions about tech in 2010, but after popping out the orifice of one decade, there’s just nothing like rollin’ up your sleeves and heading toward the end of the next one. That’s what we aim to do and we’ve got 10 predictions to make you wonder how it is all going to end.

Ask The Reader: Are You Upgrading to Windows 7? {Poll}

28 Oct, 2009 by Josh Mings in CULTURE

Well, well, well, from the looks of the last poll, not too many people care about hardware/software upgrade plans. I agree… BORING. For me, a hardware upgrade consists of bottling pure rage (and my new hot sauce recipe) to throw a computer 200 feet into the air.

So, while we’re on the topic of rage, lets do a really cliché poll about Microsoft’s hot new OS, Windows 7, that was made available last week. Maybe this one will get some more interests since Windows is sooooo much better than Mac, and Macs are soooooo much better than Windows.

Oh yes, 3D product development on a Mac. ‘Tis a glorious thing isn’t it? Although maybe not completely glorious, but sure, glorious enough to get a mob of Mac users riled up with spasmodic glee.

Autodesk just cracked open the Mac ‘Pandora’ box to provide More Options for Mac Users. AutoCAD, Inventor, 3ds Max and Revit are all getting support for virtualization via Parallels. This is, of course, in lieu of having actual, native support for Mac. SpaceClaim is another MCAD company that has divulged their support of virtualization.

Ask the Reader: Your Prediction. Will the OS As We Know It Go Away? {Poll}

19 Aug, 2009 by Josh Mings in TECH

Can you even imagine? No OS? No compatibility issues with this system or that system. Pure 3D CAD applications delivered to your screen regardless of what you ‘boot up’ at your desk, or on the road, or on the plane? Could it happen?

While visiting SolidWorks, Jon Hirshtick addressed a question about SolidWorks on a Mac or other OS. A lot of use want to see support for other operating system right? Well, he had some interesting comments, but first, what do you say? Will the OS As We Know It Go Away?
