I’ll tell you want, consuming large amounts of GPU juice in the morning can lead to mild twitches and people wondering why you’re sucking the back-end of a graphics card in the first place. However, after you’ve got your taste for tech out your system and slipped that card into your computer, barring electrocution from the spittle, you’ll be well on your way to using that hardware to aid in your quest to vanquish the 3D model landscape… as in the case with a new SolidWorks 2012 installation. You may have upgraded, but will your Quadro video card work? The answer is a resounding YES, but here are a few other things you’ll want to know about SolidWorks, GPU performance, multi-threading and more.

How To Show Molting Yaks How to Update Custom SolidWorks Materials

Go ask a molting yak this single question, “Are you using SolidWorks materials??!!” If it does anything other than say yes, you have total freedom to boot the fur right off his confused face.

However, if he is using SolidWorks materials, pull a stump up to the waterin’ hole and prepare to show him how to solve a little problem he may be having. A problem where the appearances don’t update when a material is changes. There’s a simple fix and if your flaking yak friend uses templates, he’ll want to update those right away. Here’s how.

One of These Things Is Not Like the Other… SolidWorks Visual Properties

plenum-tangentsI was showing some people on Twitter how RealView helped to cure confusion and ignorance with manufacturing. It just so happens that Twitter, also helps to cure confusion and ignorance. My ignorance.

I complained about tangent edges showing in shaded mode. I really needed to have them off, but thought, Oh well, nothing I can do about it.

Fortunately @Tyler524 was there to slap me up side the head and help me out. And as a result I’m quitting SolidSmack and starting a bee farm. I kid, but it’s humbling and slightly reassuring that I don’t know absolutely everything yet.
