Well, I’m about the only one who hasn’t weighed in on the deep, molten pool of plasticy ramifications seeping out of the HP + Stratasys 3D printer deal which happened last week.

For good reason too. I’ve been busy running back and forth along the fence in my backyard, pelting the neighbors dog with polycarbonate pellets while pondering just what a new HP-branded 3D printer means for that small segment of highly influential people called the “mainstream.” Do they need one? Do you need one? What are the problems they will solve?

Here, I take you on an adventure to the bayou, the car shop, a family gathering or maybe your office break room to have a little Q&A with a couple people who will invariably be printing our future, our 3D future.

Ask the Reader: What Process/Programs Do You Use in Design? Examples?

You are lookin’ sporty. Really, you are stylin’ the design and engineering process like no other and everyone wants to know just how you do it… or at least, we do.

Is it possible that you use more than one process or program to design and engineer products? We may not even realized it if 90% of our day is spent in one program. But, as is the case with many, there’s an insanely complex series of events that put every bit of design into play. What are yours?

ShapeWays On the Attack With Photopolymer Black

shapeways uses objet 3D printers Speaking of Objet 3D printers , there’s a new rapid-prototyping option available this fall from the company enabling you to upload a 3D designs for rapid-prototyping, Shapeways . It’s smooth, it’s black and just screaming your name.

The black photopolymer material is used with their Objet Eden 500 machine and gives you a very fine, detailed piece. They’re running a special on the material till October 19th. (That’s this Sunday.) .97 cents/cm3, nearly 70% off the regular price. What a deal.
