PhotoView 360: a Beginner’s Guide

This is a guest article by Michael Lord. Michael is a Design Engineer at Trakka Pty Limited in Sydney, Australia where they use SolidWorks to design Campervans and Motorhomes. I first talked with Michael on Twitter and asked if he would write up his experience using PhotoView360.

The iPad Rendering Challenge is finished and won by Dripta Roy. I can only look on with envy at his efforts. I was pleased at what I came up with, grateful for being chosen as a Top Contender and even more honored that Josh should ask it I could provide some insight into my process. So with that…

Winner of the iPad Model Rendering Challenge!

Well, I don’t know about you, but it’s been a tense couple of weeks watching the entries come in for the iPad model rendering challenge. The wait is over… Or is it? YES, it is!

All together we had 28 submissions and over 50 renderings from people using a variety of top-notch rendering tools – very impressive the options you all have. Here they are along with the top contenders and the one to take home the prize, a 3D Connexion SpaceTraveler.

Luxology modo Gets Photo-Freakin-Realistic Studio Lighting with SLIK

Jaw. Dropping. I’m slapping myself over and over. Actually, this is the second time I’ve slapped myself to the point my jaw is hanging by a few strands. I saw a preview of the new Luxology Studio Lighting & Illumination Kit (“SLIK”) for modo at SolidWorks World last week and have been having dreams of being washed in the most serene studio lighting imaginable.

Yazan Malkosh of 9b Studios spent a wee two months putting together a lighting kit that completely destroys the amount of time creating rigs and adjusting lighting.

Best thing of all, it’s complete extendible and customizable. Check out the workflow here. Fast. Simple. Presets.

Sneak Peak of SolidWorks PhotoView 360 2010 Rendering Capability

If you’re anxious to spray sweet gravy out your nose at the site of the new rendering capabilities in PhotoView360, your wait is mostly over as of right now.

Spoon it on, cause the Photoview 360 2010 Beta Rendering Contest has gone through the first round, and the entries… are not too shabby. You’ll notice some enhancements right away, namely, Depth of Field (DOF), Decals and ohhhhhhh yeah, custom background and environments. How ya like them biscuits?

SolidWorks Dumping XP and PhotoWorks, Big Hugs For PhotoView 360 and Window 7

Hold your gasps for a few minutes… ok, just a bit more, hold it… and release. I know, it’s almost shocking. And your friends? They probably won’t believe you for a few minutes, but yes, it’s true. SolidWorks is dropping support for Windows XP and phasing out PhotoWorks after 2010.
