SolidWorks 2011: More Features, Faster Design, Fewer Beatings

Blow the beet juice out of your mouth. This week SolidWorks 2011 is launched. We could ask the same questions we did last year and we could also bore 1/4-20 screws into our head. We will do neither. What we want to know is one thing, is 2011 better.

Is it better than 2010? Does it have better options? Does it have better performance? We’ll answer that. We’ll take a look at the best new features and smack a “Best New Feature award” on the ones you’re sure to use and spray virtual malice on the stuff that could be better.

SolidWorks 2011 Preview: PV360, Assembly Features and More Shocks To Your Gnoggin’

It’s been nearly two weeks since I fell down a flight of stairs at the Anaheim convention center after some new features for SolidWorks 2011 were previewed at SolidWorks World, but that’s not gonna stop me from spitting up blood to tell you about them.

Last week, we talked possible enhancements, but this is different. These are real features you’ll see in the next version of SolidWorks. Yeah, you haven’t even upgraded to SolidWorks 2010, but come on, SolidWorks 2010… so last decade.

Will You Miss the Shape Feature in SolidWorks 2010?… The What?

solidworks-form-featureIf you’ve upgraded to SolidWorks 2009 SP2.1, you might notice a message for an obscure feature that helps you make lil’ bumps on faces. The Shape feature. Turns out, this particular feature will not be available in SolidWorks 2010.

Yep, so now, you and that one guy in South Dakota who use it to make fake indentations on sheet metal parts are going to have to move on to another feature. What could it be?
