Stretch. Flip. Push. Punch. The Future of Screen Tech… 3D Missing?

3D Human CAD Models

With all the touchscreen craziness we’ve seen over the past few years, there are about 500 direction future screen technology could go. Personally, I won’t be satisfied until they’re formable, edible and can be wrapped around my face like a make-shift Halloween mask.

Some people have other ideas, and the perfect organization to compile them all into one meaty video presentation is TAT. TAT knows 3D user interface design. They not only conceptualize fancy interfaces, their technology is currently used in 20% of all touch phones.

They recently held the TAT Open Innovation experiment. They gathered comments, ideas, dreams and wishes ranging from enhancing mobile interaction to embedding screen tech into every aspect of your life… Face it. You can’t escape. They even think we’ll see this technology by 2014. Here’s the video and the highlights. What’s your vote for new screen tech?

The Wonderful Gadgets and Tech Design Future of Iron Man 2

07 May, 2010 by Josh Mings in TECH

So, we haven’t even seen tech from Iron Man 1 developed yet, but who cares! We’ll take any blind stab at future tech Hollywood throws at us and say… HECK YEAH.

Iron Man 2 starts today and it’s gotta have gadget galore at least as cool as the first one and UI’s way better than the rinky-dink multi-touch phones we use now. As you’ll see in the following videos, the future is filled with transparent displays, table-top interaction, digital feedback and dressing in front of windows. It certainly makes one think about how the ideas could manifest themselves in the not-so-movie-like work life.

Using Multi-touch in SpaceClaim. The Future of Direct Modeling and 3D Design.

30 Mar, 2010 by Josh Mings in TECH

While I was growing up, I’d occasionally run towards a wall, jam my fingers up into my arms, pass out and wake up to dogs dragging me off into the woods. Fortunately, the dogs were my pets and my fingers healed into agile implements of multi-touch destruction.

And thankfully so. At SolidWorks World 2010 I sat down with Blake Courter to try the new multi-touch features released with SpaceClaim 2009+ late last year. He snickered at my deformed knuckles, but observed in awe my reaction to what I’m positive will be tech that shapes the future of 3D modeling.

Here’s why.

10 New Technology Predictions for the Future of 3D and Design

06 Jan, 2010 by Josh Mings in TECH

Quick, while nobody’s looking, slip those goggles on that make you look as if you’ve slipped through time to warn yourself about reading this post. “DON’T READ IT!” your future self says, but curiosity grasped your eyelids and pulls them clear over your freshly shaved hairline.

You just can’t start a new decade without throwing a huge, sopping wet wad of presumption at the next one. It would be easy to make predictions about tech in 2010, but after popping out the orifice of one decade, there’s just nothing like rollin’ up your sleeves and heading toward the end of the next one. That’s what we aim to do and we’ve got 10 predictions to make you wonder how it is all going to end.
