Autodesk University 2010: 5 Programs Rockin’ the Future of Design

30 Nov, 2010 by in NEWS

Autodesk University 2010 is off to a design romping start and there’s already been a massive skull buttering of product announcements, tech previews and tid-bits of information coming in from all directions.

Autodesk has no qualms about mentioning hybrid modeling approaches, cloud computing or delivering software over the web. Mostly because, well, they’re already doing it. They’ve left plenty of lingering questions (delivery, price, security) but here’s the meat of what Autodesk is introducing to you, the future of design.

Head to Screen Slam Jam. 3D Head Tracking and Inventor on a Mac?

12 Jan, 2010 by in TECH

What if you could stick suction cups on your oculars and move models around on the screen with your eyeballs? Yeah, and, what if you could stick suction cups on your chest, hands, neck and elbows to do the same thing? Oh yeah. Well, what if… you didn’t need suction cups… BOO.YAH.

PLMPlus Dawns the Red Gloves of Simplified, Internet-Based, On Demand PLM.

10 Nov, 2009 by in NEWS

I’m sorry if you bit off two of your fingers with delight while reading that headline, but believe it. PLM and simple in the same sentence, along with a completely obscure red glove metaphor? How can that be?

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is renowned for it’s complex implementation and lengthy training period. So, what if PLM were simple? Something that you didn’t have to implement. Something that you didn’t have to maintain. Something that could be accessed from (almost) anywhere. That is the aim of PLMPlus.

We had a heckuva phone conversation with Benny Shaviv yesterday and got the scoop on his fresh new venture, which by the way, recently received $4 Million in round A funding. Looks like someone thinks they’re stirring things up a little. We do too. So, we slammed Benny a very relevant case study type of question… that didn’t even phase him at all. He may be a robot, but most likely he really understands what his biz is about. Take a look.

Ask the Reader: What Kind of 3D Model Check Process Do You Have?

29 Jul, 2009 by in NEWS

Well, from last weeks poll on Zombie Co-workers it’s clear… most of you feel your jowl kickin’ skills are in fine form. Good for you, not so good for your undead coworkers.

This week, something to ravage your thought process and provoke the estranged feeling that you’ve forgotten something. We all probably have some sort of drawing check we are subjected to, but what about the 3D models you create? Do you have a check process for those or do you just let the drawing hash out the issues?
