3DVia Mobile HD for iPad… It Could Have Been eDrawings

3D Human CAD Models

Guess what kind of wild 3D manipulation news came flying out of Velizy, France today? Wrong, it has nothing to do with crêpes, large mustaches or the combination of the two.

It’s all about 3D and iPads and viewing the 3D, on the iPad. The news actually ‘leaked’ out late last week with an early release of the app to iTunes, but today Dassault officially released 3DVia Mobile HD for the iPad. It scales up the 3D viewing capabilities of the iPhone version, but you’ll notice something missing. Even more, you’ll miss what should be “Now available on iTunes.”

How to Embed 3D PDF and More into a Blog Post, Web Page… or Your Skull

03 May, 2010 by Josh Mings in CAD

You know we can’t pass up a reference to embedding things into skulls, especially 3D. You could stab your eyes or computer screen with 3D data, but what it really takes to get 3D on the web is getting into that heinous web code.

Deelip Menezes-obertron 9 touches on that with a couple posts on the topic. Not too gory, except that he reveals a lot about how difficult it can be to embed 3D. We’ve talked about how to embed 3DVia objects on your website (and how developers should avoid using iframe – and closed formats for that matter.) Here’s my suggestions in order of ease of use.

I Virtualize You Very Much. SolidWorks on the iPhone (For Reals)

20 May, 2009 by Josh Mings in TECH

Yep, SolidSmack is starting to reek of greasy touch-screen bliss. Let’s pummel this iPhone stuff even further into the ground. You remember that eDrawings on iPhone poll last week? The one where over 50% of the people would use it if they could?

Well there’s hope for you and it’s all wrapped up in a tiny little iPhone app called Citrix Receiver. So, here we are, running SolidWorks on a tiny iPhone screen? How could that even be possible? or necessary? or even practical? Here are the messy details.

Ask the Reader: eDrawings App for iPhone. Would You Use It?

12 May, 2009 by Josh Mings in TECH

So, here we are. the iPhone market is growing like genetically modified corn and SolidWorks ships a million licenses. Seems something should be going on there.

Some people I’ve heard from recently think an eDrawings App for the iPhone is in order. They travel, they need access to drawing info, models and AutoCAD drawings. So, it only makes sense that one way to view or transport this data would be via your super cool, and very trendy Apple iPhone.

What do you think? Is this needed? Why hasn’t an eDrawings app come out yet?

The regular eDrawings Viewer has been available for the Mac for years. Personally, I think this is something like SolidWorks Labs would be working on if they haven’t been toying with the idea already.
