Rack workstations. A fabulous remote-client solution that solves the problem of your co-workers ‘accidentally’ kicking the power button on your rig after 6.5 hours of unsaved work. That and avoiding the back-strain of moving workstations around make them ideal. But, before we get to all the glorious things that rack workstations are, it should be noted… Dell is entering the rack-mounted workstation space, not for the first time, but with the first multi-user rack workstation. The Dell Precision R5500. This, just a few weeks after they released an all new (long-overdue) line of Precision Workstations. What makes the multi-user rack different?

Dell Releasing New Family of Precision Workstations

SolidSmack was on hand this past week at Dell’s Precision Workstation media event held at the Autodesk Gallery in San Francisco. It’s been a few years since Dell has launched an update to their Precision line with the T7500, T5500, and T3500 coming out early 2009. This May, however, that all changes with the new T7600, T5600, T3600 coming out and with them a stylish new design, easier component access and a sweet Sandy Bridge-E pumping out the processing power.

End of Desktops? The Dell 17″ Quad-Core Beast

Who wouldn’t want a Quad-Core, 16GB, Terabyte powerhouse of a computer, crankin’ a 1GB of graphics power, to sit on their laps in the airport or lug back and forth to the office.

Sound like a briefcase of a computer? It might be, but that won’t keep Dell from the incessant teasing that it will be appearing soon with the unabashed idea that you will want this. Ok, they got us there. We want it, but is the price-point going to be reasonably inexpensive? Will it run that 3D CAD program we all know and love?
