Well, it snuck up on us, but once again it’s the time of year we wish everyone would stop being so selfish and buy us a sweet piece of tech we can become completely absorbed in. A high-end laptop for crankin’ SolidWorks and other 3D goodness would be just fine.

SolidBox is the new site that takes all the guess work out of choosing what kind of rig you need to spank 3D modeling, rendering, simulation or animation instead of having it spank you. Don’t ya just love slapping down a couple grand for a smokin’ hot 3D model pumpin’ workstation? There’s a whole heap memory-laden machine to smooth out design, render and simulate, but there’s comes a point when you hear what has worked best for others.
Today we take a look at the magnificence of a perfect mobile workstation… Perfect from a sense that it works pretty darn good to run mid to high range 3D CAD apps while streaming music.

MCAD is running like heck from the desktop. The possibilities of where CAD data is accessed from and where you are when you access it just keeps on growing I tell ya. First you have laptops coming out sporting the AMD Turion X2 Ultra to integrate processor and graphics card capabilities. That equals more power, anywhere.
Now you have HP bringing thin-client workstations to MCAD, workstations that move that box right off your desk and into the depths a server room.
That’s right, all the 3D CAD data is accessed, not from your hard-drive, but from a data-center somewhere else. Can it possibly work? Lets take a look.
