Sure you could fritter your time away and fiddle with a 3D City on an iPad, but what if you could create realistic 3D cities… with a push of a button, and for free? That’s what I’m talkin’ about.

It’s also what Arnaud Couturier is talkin’ about. He’s developed the very fast, very cool Suicidator City Generator for Blender. It’s a lightweight python script that allows you to set parameters for textures, streets and size, then generate cities in an instant. That’s the easy part. Only thing left after that is to apply your Blender skills to get realistic renderings.

Sculptris. A Free (and Freaking Cool) 3D Sculpting Tool

You remember when you were a kid… or maybe yesterday, when you would plow your head into a clump of clay, wall, or mama’s mashed potatoes just to see the imprint? I do. Good times. I’ve grown up since then, so when there isn’t a pile of pliable material around, I sit in a chair and push pixels around on a screen using a digital sculpting tool. oh yeaah.

The latest is Sculptris. Pure, unadulterated sculpting power developed by Tomas Pettersson, himself, over a 6 month period. It’s bare-bones simple, but has all the tools you’ll need to get familiar with sculpting. On top of that… it’s free.

The Magnificent Sphere of SolidWorks, Rhino, & Blender Design

If you’ve surrounded yourself with thousands of lighted spheres like I have, you’ll be interested to learn of the potential for incredibly cool design living within each of the precious glowing orbs.

Andre Baran of formendesign.de knows, and has animated a spherical surprise to impress upon you the true nature of transformation as applied to the simple shape. From it, five unique design literally unfold in a process that combines SolidWorks, Rhino and Blender to produce the results. Andre tells us more.
