Collaborative innovation is the name of the game and both Seimens PLM and Dassualt are knocking at the door of co-creating possibility. Except it’s less possibility and more actuality. This week both companies have revealed their plans to take collaboration to another a place where you can snuggle up with like-minded people via the warm glow of the web browser to develop ideas. Dassualt dished out their dreams at the Dassault Systemes Customer Conference (DSCC). Friday, Siemens PLM has their big announcement about a collaborative engineering effort with Local Motors, with whom they recently formed a Partnership for a “Revolutionary Crowdsourcing Design Approach.” Here’s how it all breaks down.

3D Print from 3DVIA. Sculpteo Churnin’ Out the Bits.

29 Jun, 2011 by Josh Mings in FAB, NEWS

Who feels like printing some 3D? Oh yeah! But don’t rub it on yourself. It chafes like you wouldn’t believe and there has yet to be any partnership to produce a 3D anti-chafing cream. (I would pay good money for this.) There has, however, been a(nother) partnership to print 3D direct from a website where you store models. That site is 3DVIA, a community focused on all things 3D and that partnership is with Sculpteo, a online 3D Printing service. If you have any models on 3DVIA you now have the options to send the model directly to Sculpteo to be printed. Your life is complete.

3DVia Mobile HD for iPad… It Could Have Been eDrawings

13 Sep, 2010 by Josh Mings in NEWS

Guess what kind of wild 3D manipulation news came flying out of Velizy, France today? Wrong, it has nothing to do with crêpes, large mustaches or the combination of the two.

It’s all about 3D and iPads and viewing the 3D, on the iPad. The news actually ‘leaked’ out late last week with an early release of the app to iTunes, but today Dassault officially released 3DVia Mobile HD for the iPad. It scales up the 3D viewing capabilities of the iPhone version, but you’ll notice something missing. Even more, you’ll miss what should be “Now available on iTunes.”

3DVia Billions and 3DVia Studio. The Mafia will Die. The Farm will Burn. You will 3D Print from Facebook.

09 Aug, 2010 by Josh Mings in NEWS, ROCKIN'

I hate Facebook games. Hate. them. Too the point I feel like butchering a hog over someone’s keyboard as they get a Crop Whisperer ribbon on Farmville. Those feelings may change…. I doubt it, but this… is cool.

Last week 3DVia made the announcement that the 3D Social gaming blitzkrieg that is Billions is now available to play on Facebook. Oh great. Another Facebook game right? Well, we covered the announcement last March. If you saw the images then, ya gotta admit, this would be a different game, nay, a different experience for web-based gaming.

The game is indeed interesting… and fun. Wonder what it’s like and why it could change gaming? What about 3D design and how we interact in a virtual environment? Take a look.

How to Embed 3D PDF and More into a Blog Post, Web Page… or Your Skull

03 May, 2010 by Josh Mings in CAD

You know we can’t pass up a reference to embedding things into skulls, especially 3D. You could stab your eyes or computer screen with 3D data, but what it really takes to get 3D on the web is getting into that heinous web code.

Deelip Menezes-obertron 9 touches on that with a couple posts on the topic. Not too gory, except that he reveals a lot about how difficult it can be to embed 3D. We’ve talked about how to embed 3DVia objects on your website (and how developers should avoid using iframe – and closed formats for that matter.) Here’s my suggestions in order of ease of use.

3DVia Has Billions… of Reasons to Excite You About Online Social Gaming

09 Mar, 2010 by Josh Mings in NEWS, ROCKIN'

3DVia also has billions of reasons to make you excited about Mogaloos, how many you capture and how you feel about the color pink as the backdrop of the universe.

This week at the Game Developers Conference (GDC 2010) in San Francisco, 3DVia is showing off 6 new games developed with 3DVia products. Among those is the first game built using 3DVIA Studio, an online social game, called Billions, that I can tell you right now is the very reason I’ll be staying up all night gorging myself with Twizzlers and Coke in front of the computer screen.

3DVia Jabs 3D Augmented Reality Elfin Game Fun Into Your Eyehole

16 Oct, 2009 by Josh Mings in TECH

Yes, it’s all fun and games until… someone jabs an elfin creature in the eye, gets a gnarly infection and start projectile vomiting all over the place. Fortunately, it’s a virtual elfin creatures we’re talking about. The people behind it… 3DVia.

Last week at the Dassault Customer Conference, I found out some top secret (totally-not-top-secret) information about what 3DVia and Dassault has been working on behind the scenes. A new augmented reality game. But get this, it’s not just regular old AR…

22 Sep, 2009 by Josh Mings in NEWS

So, I’m minding my own business, trying to increase my high score on Scramble 2 when all of a sudden I feel a tremor in the 3D mobile app force. Nope, it wasn’t the tomatillo enchiladas. There had been, as a matter of fact, a new iPhone app approved.

The 3DVia Mobile iPhone app. It’s out as of now and for the time, it’s completely free at the iTunes App store. What? You’re a bit skeptical of ‘free’ and wondering what new and wonderous power lies within this 3D app? Not a problem. We’ve got the details.
