Spatial and Dassault Push CAD to the Cloud. What it All Means.

3D Human CAD Models

At the beginning of the year I predicted a move of 3D apps toward the cloud. Anyone could have guessed that though. SolidWorks showed-off the cross-platform possibilities and Autodesk put AutoCAD on the cloud. But, working with 3D geometry via the web hasn’t been seen… till this past week.

Deelip Menezes broke the news Tuesday morning from the Spatial European Forum. (Read Really Big News from Dassault and Spatial) It’s now possible for anyone to license the technology to put 3D design applications on the web. Dassault and Spatial are making it happen.

The news has massive implications for the CAx and design Industries. So, we followed up with Deelip to get his insight. We’ll also take a look at the first rendition of the app put out by Spatial and give it a spin. Oh, did I mention you can too?

Not all of us are able to build wild contraptions that strap to our backs and allow us to shoot plastic out the tips of our fingers. That’s why there are places like CloudFab who will take on the task for you.

Today, they’re out of Beta, opening the doors and adding new features for Manufacturers and Designers. Features that allow you to ‘print’ cash… so to speak. HA!

I seriously do not know where to start after my eyeballs have been water-boarded with sweet, nerd-core tech that was the SolidWorks World Day 1, General Session. With it being the single best session I can remember out of all I’ve been to, there’s plenty to talk about. However, the big news is this… SolidWorks on the Mac. And not only on the Mac… SolidWorks on Linux, Windows, Chrome OS or even Firefox…. but it doesn’t stop there.

AutoDesk Gets SaaSy. Inventor, Maya and More… in the Cloud.

18 Sep, 2009 by Josh Mings in NEWS

Yesterday, AutoDesk goes and launches the Sketchbook Mobile iPhone App. Today? Cloud city, baby. AutoDesk has cranked up the bandwidth on the West Coast to allow the ability to run trial version of certain AutoDesk software via their servers.

The only problem? You have to be within a specific geographical area. Looks to be within a 1000 mile radius of the Lab in San Fransisco. So, if you’re floating in the Pacific off the coast, have fun. If you’re in Idaho, get back to the potato fields. Here’s a little more info.
