Yes! The time has come to announce the winners if the very first SolidSmack Design Contest. This… was absolutely incredible. We had over 130 entries across a range of categories spanning architecture, automotive, consumer products and more. You can just see all the entries at GrabCAD. With the amount of entries and the thought that was put into many of the designs, choosing the winners was more challenging than putting this contest together. Nevertheless, we have 7 winners and a big dish of honorable mentions to take home over $15,000 in prizes! Here they are.
We are well on our way to the completion of an awesome ‘Awesome Sauce’ Design Contest! If you’ve not heard about it, this is a completely open design contest dependent on nothing else than your cunning sense of style and creativity. It seems quite a few are up for the challenge as the number of entries has grown to over 100. You can see all of the entries so far right over here at the GrabCAD library. The SolidSmack Awesome Sauce Design contest is tearing full speed ahead with over 70 entries already. Welcome the first annual SolidWorks “Awesome Sauce” Design Competition! This is a contest to explore the ideas we have, passions we chase and interest we have that make people look at us weird. This is a contest for you to take your ideas and get exposure and feedback from other engineers and designers. What have you wanted to design? Fountains? Chairs? Robots? Chainsaws? How about a mechanized Aston Martin DB5 fender with hidden gun compartment? This contest is wide open, but we are looking for a few key qualities.
There are five reasons I just dropped what was doing to check this out *looks down at fist, punches face*. Fortunately, I didn’t have machined titanium rings on each finger or my face would be a bloody, unrecognizable mess. What’s exciting me to punches is a self-initiated competition going on over at GrabCAD. Put on by user Scott Bruins to design the ultimate Titanium Mens Wedding Ring. Scott is getting hitched next year and since he works in a machine shop, where he’s designed some other (quite fancy) Titanium Rings, he thought he’d offer up a challenge to the GrabCAD community for one of his very own. The challenge is on. Some designs have been submitted and engineers and designers of all sorts are getting excited about wedding rings.
A lot of people tell me there are “better things” to do with compact electric scooter fenders than strap them to my body and run through a crowd of cake-vomiting children at a birthday party wall of fire and punches. One of those activities which is said to be better, is tossing the existing fenders in a scrap heap and designing some completely new fenders; Fenders that scream supreme scooter style.
